Results-Based Incentives: Five Rules

Caution Sign
Health care law clearly delineates five rules for the conduct of a results-based incentive program:

  1. Parameters must be reassessed at least once per year
  2. The program must be designed to promote health and wellness
  3. The financial impact must not exceed 20% of the total cost of offered coverage
  4. Rewards must be available to all “similarly situated individuals” and there must be “reasonable alternative standards”
  5. The appeals process must be delineated in all plan materials
